Ways to get around Vietnam during your business trip

Vietnam is the country with the most amazing food cuisine as well as coffee, the weather there can also be extreme when it’s hot – It’s really really hot. When it rains, it rains cats and dogs. Between the months of May- October, you should be prepared for both.

DEVOURING THE FOOD!

Vietnamese food is one of the most delicious food in Asia and you would definitely want to try it all. You will be able to splurge on when you are in Vietnam as one bowl of delicious PHO would cost you only 2 USD. However, try to go for the stalls that have a good crowd or get any of your local colleagues to bring you around for local food as they would know best!

SAFETY FIRST

Having being born & raised in Singapore, we are used to being in a super safe environment that could cause us to be as comfortable as we have always been when we travel. The last thing you would want on your business trip is another added problem of your laptop going missing or your valuables, like any other big cities, there would always be some pickpockets / Taxi drivers cheating on your money, etc..

GETTING TO YOUR HOTEL

Once you have arrived at the airport, if your company has already booked a transport transfer for you then this would not be relevant for you. If not, you can either book a grab from your mobile and be sure to double-check on the license plate on your mobile phone & the car itself.

ENSURE TO BRING MORE CASH THAN USUAL

In Vietnam, especially if it is out of the major cities, is still a cash-based economy, the majority of the places won’t accept credit cards and ATMs can be quite limited.

TRAFFIC IS WILD

If you can drive in Vietnam, you can drive anywhere else around the world.
Especially when crossing the street, be cautious of motorbikes and cars travelling towards you, especially if it is your first time being in Vietnam, you will find crossing the road extremely scary. But there are some reasons for this, the motorbikes that are moving and anticipating your movements are actually trying to avoid hitting you. Be prepared for some cyclists that would still cross the road even after the light has changed.

Business Trip to Hanoi!

TAXI METER

Not all taxi drivers are frauds but to be safe, stick with a reliable company like Grab, it is way cheaper and trustworthy. However, if you have to take a taxi because you are already late for your meeting, ensure to tell the taxi drivers to turn on the meter.

ENJOY YOUR BUSINESS TRIP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN

Try being friends with your local colleagues in this lovely city and absorb about the culture and speaking to the locals to adjust to the country’s pace. Enjoy their coffee and their amazing country!
